“Showmageddon 2018” is an opportunity for one enterprising comic to win his or her very own quarterly showcase in the Rickles Room at Comedy @ The Carlson! Comics are asked to submit a proposal for a showcase. We are looking for shows with fun and interesting concepts. The more original, the better! The club will then have each of the applicants in for a quick face-to-face meeting about their proposal. After those meetings 4 contestants will be selected and given a date for their show!
Contestants are required to submit the following:
1. Your contact information including a phone number
2. An original show title
3. A description of what the show is; original ideas and twists on the boring old amateur showcases are a plus. We want shows that can be continued attractions!
4. A "marketing plan” - a semi-detailed explanation on who your show appeals to and how you plan on selling tickets.
Submissions are to be sent to Carlsoncast@gmail.com by Friday, August 17th at 12pm. You will be contacted to schedule an appointment for your presentation .
The rules for booking performers on your show and promotions:
1. Your show must be 90 Minutes.
2. You can book any type of acts you want, but any one performer may only be on one showcase in the contest. For example Jane Doe can perform on show 1 but would not be allowed to be on show
3. The Rickles Room will be set up to seat 125 customers.
4. Tickets will be $10 cash at the door. Contestant gets $5 per ticket (minus the cost of an ASL interpreter on each show) to pay their performers and keep for themselves. (The amount per ticket received will be increased for future performances of the winning showcase.)
5. Contestants will be responsible for their own artwork for their show posters, etc. Comedy @ the Carlson will share social media posts including your event page. The week of each show that week’s contestant will be invited on the Comedy @ The Carlson-Cast to promote their show.
How a winner is decided:
1. Ticket Sales
2. Judges scores
3. Audience questionnaires
Judges will score the show on overall performances, audience enjoyment, and overall enjoyment on a 1-10 scale. After all four performances the highest scoring showcase will be welcomed back to regularly be featured in the Rickles Room!
